StorageCraft and Accelerite (a Persistent Systems company) issued this joint announcement letter, letting customers know that rCloud service will be discontinued. Read all the official details here.
A: Immediately after the joint Accelerite and StorageCraft letter is sent, your regional Territory Account Manager or Channel Account Manager will contact you. Your business is very important to us and we’re here to make your transition from rCloud to StorageCraft Cloud Services as seamless as possible. For additional information and help, please call the StorageCraft Sales team at 801.545.4711.
A: Accelerite is a wholly owned business of Persistent Systems, and is based in Silicon Valley. On Friday, October 12, 2012, Doyenz's rCloud service was acquired by Persistent Systems and placed in the Accelerite product portfolio.
A: StorageCraft Cloud Services user guide information is available HERE.
A: To ensure each machine’s data integrity and the best long-term client experience, StorageCraft has determined that the best option would be to have our clients replicate their machine directly to the StorageCraft Cloud instead of attempting to migrate or transfer a machine directly from rCloud.
A: The partner level upgrade associated with the migration offer is valid from May 1, 2017 through May 1, 2018. After the 1-year term, each partner will assigned to the partner program level based on their actual program requirement status. For details on level qualification, please visit the StorageCraft Partner Portal.
A: At the end of year 1, each partner will be able to renew the IT Edition Pro license at the StorageCraft standard price. Please review the StorageCraft Partner Program Benefits for additional information.
A: These versions of ImageManager and ShadowProtect include additional functionality to ensure effective communication and replication with StorageCraft Cloud Services. The software also includes functionality to minimize the support overhead required by the partner to manage and maintain these machines.
A: Answer: The question of replicating vs seeding is really a question of machine (ShadowProtect backup image) size vs. network bandwidth. It is very feasible to replicate a full machine to StorageCraft Cloud Services given the performance of today’s networks.
You can use the following formula to estimate the time required to replicate a particular backup image file:
(((FS * 1024) / AB * 60) * 8) = Time to transfer file (minutes)
Variable | Definition |
---|---|
F5 | Backup image file size in GB. |
AB | The available bandwidth to transfer the file in Mb/sec. This is likely less than the total network bandwidth since there is always other network activity that occupies some of the bandwidth. |
For example, an organization with 28 Mb/sec (multiplied by 8 to convert to MB) available bandwidth wants to transfer a full backup image file of 410GB: (((410 *1024) / 28*60) * 8) = 1992 minutes |
A: Answer: A one (1) TB (or less) seed drive will be seeded within seven (7) calendar days after StorageCraft receives it. Drives larger than one (1) TB will require one (1) additional day per TB before the seeding is complete.
A: We recommend that you continue replicating to rCloud while starting your machine migration to StorageCraft Cloud Services (essentially replicating to both clouds if you have sufficient bandwidth). As part of the StorageCraft offer, we will not bill you for 2 complete billing cycles. This will allow you to verify the status of your machine in the StorageCraft Cloud prior to deleting your corresponding rCloud machine.
After verifying your machine in the StorageCraft Cloud and deleting the rCloud machine, StorageCraft also recommends uninstalling the Doyenz Agent on the local machine.
A: No, not necessarily.
Accelerite’s rCloud supports one recovery point per day and you may have numerous recovery points depending upon your retention settings.
StorageCraft Cloud Services, in conjunction with ImageManager, initially uses the shortest chain possible when seeding the cloud. Only a small percentage of backup image files from the local managed folder become recovery points in the cloud. This reduces the amount of time it takes to get the cloud caught up with the local backups. After the initial seed, StorageCraft automatically generates one recovery point per day. The recovery point is created from the first image replicated to the StorageCraft cloud after midnight. Clients also have the option of modifying the following three Retention Settings defaults: Daily, Weekly and Delete.
A: Mirroring to a secondary data center protects your data in case of a natural disaster that destroys the primary data center. For those who want to guarantee data recovery, regardless of disaster scope, mirroring provides the necessary peace-of-mind..
A: StorageCraft Cloud Services utilizes Tier 3 or 3+ datacenters. StorageCraft Cloud Services is deployed on hardware and a networking infrastructure dedicated solely to StorageCraft Cloud Services.

U.S. Sites
Important: StorageCraft adds new ftp addresses from time to time. If your replications start failing, check to see if a new ftp address has been added to the list below. Alternately, if your router allows it, a best practice is to configure your router to allow a range of ftp addresses (for example, ftp://ftp**-slc.storagecraft.com). See the user guide for your specific router for the instructions on configuring the range of addresses.
Ports
The same ports are used for all cloud sites.
Note: Ports 21 and 10000-11000 are required when using SSL encryption. If you choose SSH encryption you need to open ports 21 and 22.
